Voted one of the top three guitarists in the world by U.S. Magazine Guitar Player, flamenco guitarist Juan Martín plays with “terrifyingly good technique and an absolute dominance of the guitar” (Spanish newspaper El Mundo).

What is a Folk Club? Historically and traditionally, it is a venue for singer-songwriters and for ethnic music. Folk Clubs around the world support musicians who write, sing, and play music that is observational and experiential.

The Kelowna Folk Club is no different. It has been promoting music for nineteen years, (since 1995) and has supported many genres of music that tend to get put together under the phrase “folk music”. From Blues, Bluegrass, and Celtic to Folk Country, Folk Rock, and World Music, the Kelowna Folk Club has covered them all.

Audiences consist of those who come to hear a specific artist to those who simply enjoy any of the music offered. Many are members of the club who have been around since the beginning and who continue to support the club for what it does.

The Kelowna Folk Club puts on concerts from September to May each year, excluding December. The concerts often have an opening act which is our opportunity to feature local folk musicians. In the past, the Club has also supported house concerts and a popular concert called, “Eclectic sans Electric” which is a showcase of local musicians who play without electric amplification or augmentation.

The ability to offer internationally famous folk acts as well as “home grown” local artists is something the Kelowna Folk Club is proud of. Please contact us for more information on our not-for-profit society.
